• Chairman’s Chat:
    CHESHIRE SEVENS
AN AREA GROUP OF THE PRE WAR AUSTIN 7 CLUB
It was pleasing to see such a good attendance at this year’s AGM but sadly for some this year no records were broken to complete the business within three minutes or less. I felt there was a need to expand on a range of topics and clarify the current position in respect of PLI insurance and to move forward by setting out in more detail the plan for our 40th anniversary along with the programme for the coming year. I felt the feedback and discussions were most helpful along with willing volunteers to undertake the many tasks ahead.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all members for their support over the past year and for taking part in the many activities. In particular the committee for their willingness to take on board the many tasks which made my job all that much easier.
Sadly we lost two members and we can only reflect on their contributions to the success of the Cheshire Sevens and I am sure they will be in our memories for years to come. The Layfield Cup will no doubt be challenged by members taking part in the Shoe Box Event later this year. It is never too early to start thinking about your design to challenge Stig and win the cup
It was nice to receive into the club over the year several new members who I am confident will add value to our activities and they will be made most welcome by members.
Our first event this year being the National Drive it Day was again like last year a success with many cars on display in the car park at the Crown at Goostrey despite the unpredictable weather
For our May meeting it’s Bits and Pieces and can I prompt members to bring something to chat about either in relation to Austin Cars or something of interest. Based on the range of items last year I am sure we are in for a very enjoyable evening and will depart with a host of information we had not thought about.
Looking ahead as indicated at the AGM I hope to see more input on topics from yourselves in the newsletter so we can share information and update on your car(s) etc., which I am sure will be much more interesting than me rabbiting on about Emily and my “training engine” rebuild etc.
At the next meeting we will be outlining the catering arrangements “Jacobs Join” for the 40th anniversary. Mandy one of our new members has kindly agreed to take the lead and use her professional expertise in organising this important aspect and she will be asking for your contribution. The Jazz band has been booked and it’s now up to us to ensure this milestone event goes off with a swing.
    .
Look forward to seeing you all
    .
    Ken
